Brown Bag Seminar: Practicing Your Science Illustration Skills

Featuring Chloe Fandel

Wednesday, January 13, 2021 - 12:00pm
Virtual Event

A hands-on workshop for all levels (you DO NOT need to be "good at drawing") on developing observation and visual notetaking skills, and creating informative illustrations to help communicate scientific concepts. We will look at examples of effective illustrations, practice sketching as a way of recording detailed information, and go over the basics of how to put together a diagram to visually explain a complex idea.

Materials to have on hand

  • Ruler, Protractor, Paper, pencil, pen, & eraser
  • An object that you found outside and are curious about. Some good ideas: a pinecone, a seedpod, a plant clipping, a flower, an animal bone, an insect (alive or dead), a rock, a potted plant...whatever you can find.
  • Optional: a phone camera, PowerPoint
